Review: Fatal Identity

Fatal Identity Fatal Identity by Marie Force
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book 10 in the Fatal series. Can be read as a stand alone. Reading in order allows you to follow all the characters and their lives. Mainly Detective Lieutenant Samantha Holland and Vice President Nick Cappuano.

After being suspended Samantha "Sam" heads out and is confronted by Josh Hamilton. Josh has come across a computer generated photo of a baby that had been kidnapped 30 years before and swears it is himself. He wants Sam to investigate what happened and to find out of that is really him. The catch is that the father that raised him is none other then the FBI director Troy Hamilton. Sam being who she is, isn't going to let a thing like a suspension to keep her from finding out the truth. When the truth opens up a bigger can of worms that anyone would have thought, Sam isn't going to back down.

As with the rest of the series. This book is filled with suspense and political intrigue. Along with plenty of romance between the characters. I have to admit I feel in love with Same and Nick in the first book and haven't been disappointed yet. Their love affair and relationship makes you "sigh" and hope you can have one such as theirs someday. Sam is a strong women whom is proud of her job and nothing is going to stop her from doing it to the best of her ability. Nick knows this and no matter how mad or scared he gets about it, he will always support her.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Wicked Beautiful

Wicked Beautiful Wicked Beautiful by J.T. Geissinger
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Victoria Price known as the Queen Bitch. She empowers women to take power. Through her books and her seminars she take what they want, to put themselves first. If you don't nobody else will. The world doesn't know she reinvented herself. After being dump, pregnant and her family life not the best. Victoria was determined to never be that brokenhearted lesser person again. Fifteen years later she runs into the boy now man that had left her behind. Guess what he doesn't recognize her. Time for a little revenge. Parker Maxwell owns multiple restaurants, created charities for things dear to him. Yet something is till missing in his life. Something about Victoria seems familiar but he can't place it. She draws him in and maybe he can love again. Maybe he can get past what happened when he was younger.

I was torn on this book. While I love when past deeds are slowly fed to you and keeps you guessing at the truth. I am not a big fan of lying and deception. I am more into speaking up and confronting the elephant in the room. While I understood where Victoria was coming from. I wasn't quite happy with what she was willing to do. Parker didn't think he would ever have a chance to right wrongs that were done when he was sent away. Things didn't go down quite like everyone led them to believe. While parts of the story weren't my cup of tea. The book is well written and does keep you in suspense as to the truth. It is definitely a story of his story, her story and then the truth.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Release Blitz: Burn (Hotter than Hell, #3) by Holly S. Roberts

Burn (Hotter than Hell, #3) Stand-alone
By Holly S. Roberts

Blurb:

Dax Jonathan Montgomery’s life was destroyed after he lost his wife and unborn child in a horrific drunk driving accident and he murdered the man responsible. It cost him his heart and seven years behind bars. The horror didn’t stop there. With nowhere to go after his release, he joined the Desert Crows, a skinhead outlaw motorcycle club and does things no man should be proud of. He knows the only chance at redemption is to take over the club and turn his bike down another sweltering road.
Sofia Guadalupe Acosta was born the bi-product of a drugged out Hispanic mother and a skinhead father. Her father wanted her mother dead and his dirty little secret hidden. Her mother escaped with Sofia and changed her life to protect her child. Now Sofia’s all grown up and set on revenge.
The problem… another skinhead killed her no good rotten father so Sofia must set her sights on a different target. She doesn’t care if she burns in hell as long as Dax burns with her.
This book is intended for mature readers. Contains adult situations and violence.
Criminals, drug cartels, and outlaw motorcycle gangs--this series has it all. Are you woman enough to handle these bad boys?

Excerpt (nice, kind of):

Sofia barely moves and that makes me smile, until a bug flies into my mouth. Even eating bugs is better than prison. It’s a twenty-minute ride to Payson. We hit the Sonic on the right side of the highway by the casino. I roll the bike under the covered parking and turn off the engine. “We can take it back to the club or eat on the patio,” I tell her.
“Patio, please,” she says in a shaky voice. She’s trembling when I take her hand and help her off the bike. She won’t look at me. I squeeze her fingers and pretend I have no idea how terrified she was to ride.
I’ll admit I’m wary about having her in public. I don’t need trouble with the cops. I’m not wearing my colors or carrying my gun. As an ex-con, I’m a prohibited possessor of a gun. Sofia needs to keep it casual and I’m hoping my threat against Red will do the trick. Even so, I don’t see her as someone who cries to the cops. She fucking pointed a gun at me yesterday. She also planned to murder Fox.
We place our order. This isn’t exactly how you wine and dine a girl. This is me, though. After seven years of hell inside prison, I’d rather eat fast food whenever possible than sit inside a restaurant. I take a good long look at Sofia.
She takes off the sunglasses and moves a stray piece of hair out of her eyes. “Why are you looking at me like that, bolillo?”
Bolillo?”
“Never heard a white slur before?”
I can’t help the grin that splits my face. She’s always challenging me. “Never heard that particular one, princess.” Her eyes are almost black. I’d like to see them burning as I ram my cock into her tight little pussy.
“It means white bread bun.”
My laugh is loud in the quiet setting. No one else is sitting outside their vehicle. It’s in the low eighties up here in the mountains. Much cooler than Phoenix but still hot enough to stay in the car with the air cranked. “That the best insult you got?”
For the first time, her eyes crinkle with laughter and her lips twitch. “Well there is dog fucker but I’m saving that one.”

Excerpt (naughty):

Her insolence blasts me. If looks could kill, as they say. She has no idea what I’ve risked to keep her alive or that the time has come for her to pay up. Nothing in this fucked up world is free, and I’m tired of watching her sassy breasts and the sway of her tight ass without taking her up on the offer. I can’t allow her to leave, it’s too dangerous, and in order for her to stay with the club, she needs to be part of it.
Her skimpy shirt clings to her and does nothing to hide the bit of lace she’s wearing to push out her breasts. There’s sweat on her brow and her dark hair is wild with wisps sticking up all over the place. She must read something in my eyes because she steps back.
“Not a good idea, princess,” I say as I reach above her head and close the bedroom door behind her. I pull her closer and she pushes against my chest, which does absolutely nothing. I’m bigger and stronger and so are my brothers. That’s another lesson she needs to learn. My right hand slides up her back until I grab a nice chuck of hair at her neckline. It’s time to set the record straight and teach her her place.
“You have one chance and one chance only to choose who you belong to—my brothers or me. They’ll share you like a club whore until there’s nothing left. I’ll fuck you the same way, but I don’t share.” I roughly pull her head back.
There’s fire in her brown eyes—fury and desire mixed. Her voice holds only fury when she says, “That’s my choice? I can be gang raped or fucked by you?”
I have no idea why I’m always pushing her. I’ll admit the fire in her dark eyes turns me the fuck on. “I haven’t made up my mind if your pussy is worth the trouble or not. If you choose me, we’ll start with a blow job.”
Her right palm slams upward between us. She tries to jam it into my chin. I jerk my head back just in time. I twist her around so her back is to my chest while keeping a tight hold on her hair. My left hand slides up until I’m holding one firm breast. I squeeze until she groans.
“Like that, do you?”
“Fuck you, Dagger.” She’s breathing hard. She wants me but thinks it will be on her terms. There’s no doubt I want her, and I press my cock against her ass so she knows how bad.
“Am I your choice or my men? It’s time to decide, princess.”
She’s breathing heavily and before she answers, she releases a low growly sound. “You… you fucking piece of shit. Go ahead and fuck me. You’ve wanted to since the first time you saw my Latina ass.” She stops fighting me physically and I’m practically holding up her limp body. She’s right, I have wanted her since I saw her step out of her car and point the gun at me. We’re both fucking insane.
I whisper against her throat, “Knees.” She always smells fucking incredible. “You’ll suck me off and make it fucking good or I’ll drag you out naked and let my men enjoy you.” I have no idea what’s come over me.
Her breath hitches. She fucking likes it. I loosen my grip on her hair and lower my hand from her breast. She turns in my arms until our eyes meet. The fire in her eyes is hotter than ever.
Very slowly she sinks to her knees. Why do I want to fuck this woman until she screams my name and want to break her at the same time? The sight of her on her knees turns my already hard dick to stone.

Excerpt
I stand from the uncomfortable chair I’ve been sitting in. I move to fix my hair before I get closer to the bed, but then I remember it doesn’t matter.
Nothing matters.
Because if I wasn’t worth enough at my best, surely my messy hair, torn gown, and filthy body covered with dried blood—me at my worst—will change nothing.
“Jer—”
“Don’t speak,” I interrupt, holding up my hand, voice raspy.
I watch his face fall. His weary eyes shut in pain. Not pain due to his injuries. Not pain due to four hours of surgery.
No.
Pain due to heartache.
We’ve come full circle. Only this time the emotional pain doesn’t belong to Portia, who watched her best friend wander lost in her mind.
This time—it’s him.
He knows.
Placing my hands on the bedrail at the foot of the hospital bed, I take in the man in front of me.
The bastard.
His clean-shaven jaw grew with stubble overnight.
Dark hair, not as long and shaggy as I like. Clearly he’s been back to the barber.
I follow the plains of his solid tattooed chest and the wisps of dark hair on his tanned arms, and only when I’m ready, only when I’m brave enough, do I finally meet his piercing blue eyes.
“You lied,” I strongly tell him, my voice deep and full of emotion. I softly raise my hand when I see he wants to speak again, but I know it hurts. I know the tube that was down his throat did some damage.
I continue, ignoring my blurry vision from tears that threaten to fall. “When I woke up in the hospital four months ago, I wanted one thing,” I pause, choking back my sob, “just one thing.”
“Jerri . . .”
I shake my head, eyes closing, tears falling free. I face him with all of it. Screw strong. I let him see it all: the hurt, the agony, and the heart-crushing pain that comes with not knowing.
The anguish that comes with not being wanted.
“You,” I whisper. “I just . . . wanted . . . you.”
Opening my eyes, I watch as the light leaves his. Any hope from waking, any wish he had to be alive, healthy, and happy when he had woken up is shattered.
Just like my heart.
“Do you have any idea what it’s like to wake up and not know who you are?” I ask him.
The selfish prick remains silent, but I press on. “Do you have any idea what it’s like to constantly dream of a man, to constantly ache for him, only to find out he’s not there? That he may very well be a product of your amnesia-filled mind?”
I don’t wait for him to answer before adding, angrily, “Do you have any idea what’s it’s like to yearn, sing, and beg the love of your life to come back to you? Only to find out he doesn’t want you?”
“I ca—” he rasps incoherently.
I speak louder.
Push harder.
“It’s death! It hurts so goddamn bad you want to curl up, fall asleep, and never wake up again.” I shake my head, ignoring the determination in his eyes. His hands remain clenched at his side, the restraints having been put on after surgery to ensure he didn’t remove the chest tube when he had woken up.
“I wanted you so badly, I didn’t sleep. Barely ate. I would fall asleep just so I could dream of you. Because no matter how amazing Portia and my friends have been, I only wanted you.”
I laugh at myself mockingly. “But you never came. I hoped, I dreamed, I prayed, and I even fucking sang, clearly making a fool of myself, because I was singing to someone who didn’t want to be found in the first place!”
Fed up, he talks back as much as his battered throat and gunshot-wounded chest will allow him. “You should not have shared our song,” he rasps. “That . . . was . . . ours.”
The convicting tone in his rugged voice does nothing to deter me.
We’ve been here before.
And, as always . . . “I was never enough for you, Locklin. I won’t ever be enough.”
“Not true,” he whispers in agony.
Shaking my head sadly, I tell him, “You’ve left me, over and over again. But while I was lying in that hospital bed, like you are now, you truly and utterly departed. I don’t mean enough for you to console, and I don’t matter enough for you to ever stay.
“I had so little, and I was so desperate I would have given anything for an answer, let alone to have you by my side.” I pause, unable to control the sobs that wrack my body.
“Come here, Lass.”
The whimper leaving me will be the last one. I vow right now that I will not let myself mourn after this.
This is it.
It’s over.
“I’ve never had the option of leaving you, Locklin. I always chose to hold on and never let go.” I nod. “But it’s time. What you’ve done in the past was forgivable. But this,” I wave my hand between the two of us, “this, what you did and how you left me, is not forgivable. There’s no coming back from here. Because for once in my life when I truly needed you the most, you left me behind.”
“No, Lass. Don’t say that.”
I ignore the sign of tears that cloud his beautiful blue eyes. I ignore his outstretched fingers reaching for mine. Instead, I wipe the tears from my cheeks with the back of my hand and move to his bedside.
He tilts his head to the side, and I give in to the urge, running my fingers through his silky, dark hair. His eyes close briefly, soaking up the affection.
My touch.
“At one time, you meant everything to me. I would have gone to hell and back just for a fraction of your attention, your love.” Leaning down, I place a kiss on his chapped lips and recognize the feel of him, the smell.
The taste.
“That time is gone.”

“If I have learned anything in life, it is that love is dirty and cruel. Love is frail, too easily shattered by lies and betrayal. Real love is a pipe dream, something I never wanted anyway. Or so I thought...”
Baddest of the bad boys, Justin Dorsey is all about the pleasure life can bring. As bassist for the Bangin’ Mofos, he has reaped the rewards of his life on the small stage of the Copperline Bar by night and paid the bills as a college professor by day. He's kept the two totally separate. Isolated.
Then he finds himself captivated after a night that cannot be undone. He’s suddenly tempted by his sole taboo. A thirst he must not quench. An itch he must not scratch. A craving he simply cannot satisfy.
The bigger they are, the harder they fall, and Justin's world crashes down around him. Everything he thought — everything he knew — tells him to stay away.
But the need only grows stronger. The memory only intensifies until it consumes him. That one forbidden touch.
That taste of hot, dirty love.

about author

Sibylla Matilde grew up in the mountain valleys of Southwest Montana, and grew up exploring the alfalfa fields on the back of a horse. She attended a two-room schoolhouse 1st through 6th grade where she had same teacher the whole time. Beginning at about age 12, Sibylla discovered historical romance, feeding off of work of Jude Devereaux, Lisa Kleypas, and Karen Robards. She loves a book that can make the reader run the gamut of emotions, from the sweet glow of new love to gut-wrenching heartache. She always has stories floating around in her head, living in some fantasyland until she writes them down to free them. She is a true romantic, a bit of a Pollyanna, and a deeply emotional soul.
Music is her emotional trigger. Growing up with a Wagnarian-opera-loving mother, Sibylla grew up with music that digs deep into her soul and pulls out emotion. The soundtrack to her life includes different genres and generations. She looooooooves Thirty Seconds to Mars (rather obsessively, actually) with a little Kings of Leon to mix things up, and pimps them out regularly to all her friends through Spotify. She also enjoys watching Met Opera HD broadcasts at her local movie theater, and hopes (listening Met?) to someday see Diana Damrau reprise her role as Mozart's Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte - The Magic Flute.
Sibylla lives with her husband, Mike, a man who she firmly believes saved her from her self-destructive, hot mess self. He makes her laugh every day, even when things seem to be falling apart around them, and has proved to her that love really can heal a shattered soul. In 20 years, they have never had a fight, but argue regularly with their two teenage kids who have, unfortunately, inherited their father's quick wit (unfortunate as it is a quick wit that Sibylla, herself, definitely does not possess - there is a reason she is a writer and not a stand-up comedian), and live a quiet life with their two weird little rescued Chiweenies. Wait... teenagers and little yap-dogs? Okay, maybe not so quiet.

“My name’s Princess, not Cinderella,” she hisses angrily and follows it with a powerful slap. The crack from her palm connecting with my cheek is so loud that I wouldn’t be surprised if it fucking echoed. The bitch hit me hard enough that my face feels like it’s on fire, even with the protection from my beard. She’s got some balls; that’s for damn sure.
My hand shoots out, wrapping around her throat. Her eyes grow wide, and I pull her body flush with mine. I lower my face to hers, close enough that we trade breaths. “It fits,” I mumble as she watches my mouth.
“Huh?” she whispers, meeting my eyes.
“Your name. You reminded me of a fairy tale, but Princess is better,” I answer quietly.
