Haylee Jordan, wasn't looking for a relationship, she really didn't have many friends. That was the way she liked it. Don't trust, you don't get hurt. Ryan Porter home on leave from Iraq, wasn't looking for a relationship. He was shipping back out in a few weeks. He didn't want to put anyone through the pain if he didn't make it back. Then Haylee and Ryan meet. Haylee tells him friends only but will never tell what happened in her past to make her this way. Ryan finds himself wanting more then friendship but if that is all Haylee has to give he will accept it. Slowly things change, but will either of them be willing to take that chance on love.
I have to admit one of my pet peeves in books are secrets that take most of the book to come out. I spend most of my time yelling at the book to give me a clue or just tell me. So many times when I do find out it wasn't worth the build up. Then I feel I wasted hours of my life reading that book. So as I was reading and the secret was hinted at and I wasn't learning to much. I found myself getting a little annoyed. I loved the characters. Ryan was a sweetheart, after all he had been through he still was a wonderful loving person. Haylee blew hot and cold, yet she still seemed like a fun person. Finally the secret comes out. After jumping for joy I cried. Finally a book that made the secret worth the wait. I understood why she didn't want tot talk about it. No wonder she was so afraid to open up to Ryan. I do wish the ending could have been a little longer or maybe an epilogue. I got scared for a moment their might be a cliffhanger. I really got to stop reading the percentage left in books. Makes me nervous. For being a debut book. I was pretty impressed with the story and characters. Even the secondary characters were great to read about. I would love for Emma and Amanda to get their own stories.
